How can a therapist help?
Kelly Horwood
Therapist
Who I Am
Hi I’m Kelly! I’m a psychotherapist, but you might also call me a part time mermaid or a heart-coach. I don’t take life too seriously but I know life is serious work.
Who I See
I work with people who dream of feeling secure in both their bodies and relationships but are buried under stress, obligation to take care of everyone else, and the ghosts of their past. My clients are the ones who put on a confident face for everyone while wishing they actually felt that way.
My Approach
What I Do
My job is to teach them how to make sense of their emotions and pain so that they can build confidence, create healthy boundaries in relationships, and feel truly alive and engaged with their world.
I know from working with my clients that it is scary to open up and trust a stranger/therapist when so many people have disappointed them throughout their lives. But I also know that my clients are always the bravest people in the room even when they don’t realize it.
Why I Do It
I believe that spiritual and emotional healing, self-care, and respect for self and others will change the world.
I also know that I am good at what I do.
And helping you figure out the complicated and messy pieces of your life is what I do best.
I hope you will reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are the right fit to do this important work together.
It’s important to find a therapist that’s a good fit. Let’s chat!

Therapy is better with a dog
I am a therapy dog handler with two certified therapy dogs. Either one of them will join us in session if you’re comfortable with it.
Cora
Cora, my long-haired dachshund, is certified as a therapy dog (member # 58183) with Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
She has special insurance that allows her to be in session as a working dog.
She enjoys providing emotional support and encouragement to clients while they work through some of life’s most difficult issues.
Cora loves nothing more than to sit next to someone or snuggle in their lap.
Cora will be at the office regularly, and by request. If you have any allergies or aversions to small dogs, please let me know prior to your session. I will try to accommodate you.
Theia
Certified with Alliance of Therapy Dogs, #051897
This pretty girl is an AKC Rough Collie (think of Lassie!). She was born November 2019 and is a “covid puppy”, as she is a late bloomer in her experience and confidence.
With Cora getting older, Theia is being trained to take her position and role.
Different in personality to Cora, Theia is a calm presence. She enjoys being near and is curious and interested in understanding people and their emotions. She has a soothing presence and enjoys all the rubs and pets.
If you have any allergies or aversions to large dogs, please let me know prior to your session. I will try to accommodate you.
